The installation proposal
MUSICAL CHAIRS
Sitting on a chair is an experience we all have, our world is full of different kinds of chairs and seats, but what does the chair mean to the human and our everyday lives? How does it fit in t our environment, what does it give us?This instalation will explore the feelings, emotions and memories we get from different kinds of chairsin there spesific landscapes and enviroments.
I have made up a drawing of how the installation would be set up. There will be four rooms and the public would be invited to walk around them. Room 1 has a deck chair  room 2 a dentists chair, room 3 babies high chair, and room 4 two cinima seats. Once entering the room the auidence will be expected to take a seat,(with exception of the high chair). There will be a sound trigger under the chairs(infront of the entrance room 3), that once pressure is applied sound will play and writting will appear.  This sound and lighting will describe the chairs scenary to the publics senses and will provoke some sort of emotional response. For example in room 1 there is a deck chair which when sat on a high volume of lighting will appear and sounds of the sea seagals and laughter, which will relate to the sense of enjoyment and trigger happy memories from a holiday scene. Room 2 is a dentist chair and when triggered the sound of drill and screams will be heard as well as an overhead light, this gives the sense of fear and pain. Room 3 being triggered upon entrance babies laughter and soft lighting giving the sense of joy and delight, and room 4 a spotlight and clapping suggestion the sense of amusement.
Above is an example of how the installation would be laid out and how it would work.
My logo design developed in to the word Viola which turned in to geometric shapes which has taken the form of symbols used when using a recording or film device, such as play rewind and most importantly to connect to my artist record.
I like my logo design and find it connects to my artist and his work well, although my idea for the logo was achieved from looking and experimenting with drawings of chairs I find the object aspect has been removed from the final piece too much.
A solution to this is for me to combine this with one of my original ideas /proposal, which was to use Bill Violas method of looking at the environment and how or what it does and means to the human and everyday experiences. I used my object to explore this. The format would be an installation for the public to experience. I was unable to realise this so created a line drawing, (like the instruction and self assemble packs I have looked at) to suggest how it would be laid out. I also created a short film to give a visual example and an example of how sound would be used in the installation. The final piece had to combine all of this as well as my logo, so I decided to create a dvd package containing the short film with my logo design on, with the drawing and installation proposal inside.

After researching my artist I moved on to my object.I decided to focus on a folding chair such as a film directors to link it to my artists method of work. I looked at self assemble packs and instruction like drawings of a chair that I found interesting and thought this would be a good way to start to create my graphic response.
I developed and explored the idea of using these type of drawings along with my artists name and found that geometric shapes worked and stood out as symbols, so I decided to create a logo.

While researching my given artist I have learnt his approach to making and producing artworks is he explores the human experiences and sense perception, specifically of our surroundings and everyday experiences. He lets the public explore this for themselves through his installations. This is shown mainly through using video and film recordings and sound recordings.
